On Saturday April 26, 2014 the annual Southern Maryland Convention was held at the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department in Calvert County. The afternoon began with the memorial service honoring members of departments who passed away last year. After the memorial service the convention meeting was held. During the meeting the department was awarded 1st place in Class III for our fire prevention entry.
On Sunday the annual parade was held in Solomon's. Members spent several days cleaning the apparatus in preparation for the event. Early Sunday morning the members headed to Solomons in the apparatus. The parade began at 1:00 p.m. and was followed by firefighter games at the Solomon's VFD grounds.
After all the games were complete the awards were given out. The department brought home two trophies for Best Appearing Engine 1750 GPM and over for Engine 52 along with Best Appearing Brush Truck for Brush 5.
Everyone had a great time at the convention. Congratulations to all the departments that took home awards at the parade.
